Sudarshan’s Bindas Bol prog: SC adjourns hearing till Oct 5

New Delhi: Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing till October 5 on a petition seeking direction against Sudarshan TV News channel for allegedly showing “UPSC Jihad show.
“The case is postponed and the matter will be taken up for hearing on October 5,” a bench headed by Justice D Y Chandrahud said.
Advocate Kaleeswaram Raj, appearing for the founder of Asianet and ACJ India, Shashi Kumar, said, he is seeking to intervene in the case.
Justice Chandrachud said, at some point hearing needs to come to end. All goods things need to come to an end, he said.
Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta said, the centre has issued a 4 page notice to Sudarshan News TV today. It said that the TV needs to give a written submission before 5 pm on September 28 regarding violation of program code and why action should not be taken against them.
Mehta said, if no reply is received to the notice then ex parte decision will be taken. Its a detailed show cause notice showing facts which are prima facie according to centre not in accordance with program code.
Justice Chandrachud said, if the case wasn’t heard then the show would have been completely aired by now. Let us think about it.
SG said, I feel the intervention of the court should be a last resort.
Mehta informed the SC that Centre prima facie finds the Sudarshan TV’s ‘Bindas Bol’ programme has violated the Programme Code and that a detailed show cause notice has been issued to the channel to explain why action be not taken against it.
