New Delhi: The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition as withdrawn, seeking direction to withhold the Fundamental Right to Freedom of Speech and Expression in subjudice matters.
While dismissing the petition on Friday, the apex bench headed by CJI Sharad Arvind Bobde suggested the petitioner Dr. Subhash Vijayaran to read the law. Justice Bobde said, “What you are asking for is the law itself. Read the law and you will find out the same.”
Though the bench heard the petitioner-in-person patiently, it was not inclined to pass any order. Justice Bobde told that the petitioner’s motives are good and noble, but he (petitioner) was trying to get a relief which this Court cannot give.
During the hearing of the petition, Dr. Vijayran responded that the issue pertained to the erosion of people’s faith in the Court due to the way the media has been acting. He also made a scathing attack on the senior advocates for consuming the court’s precious time.
On this, the apex court said, “Your prayer is akin to saying that nobody should commit murder. It is true, but how can an order be passed for that?” Justice Bobde suggested the petitioner for withdrawing the plea. The petitioner did the same.
